These U.S. airlines increase baggage fee – Check the list

In recent months, several leading U.S. airlines have increased their checked baggage fees, initiating with Alaska Airlines in January, subsequently followed by JetBlue, American Airlines, and United. These airlines have implemented a modest hike in baggage fees — typically an additional $5 per bag. However, a travel expert has suggested that these increases might not be the last. The airlines that have adjusted their fees include:

  • Alaska Airlines now charges an additional $5, setting the fee at $35 for the first bag and $45 for the second.
  • American Airlines’ fees have gone up from $30 to at least $35 for the first bag and $45 for the second, applicable to flights within and between the U.S., Canada, Mexico, much of the Caribbean and Central America, and Guyana.
  • Delta Air Lines has also increased their fees by $5, making it $35 for the first bag and $45 for the second.
  • JetBlue Airways now charges $35 for the first bag and $45 for the second if paid in advance. Fees rise to between $45 and $60 per bag if payment is made within 24 hours of departure.
  • United Airlines has increased its fees to $40 for the first bag if checked at the airport ($35 if prepaid) and $50 for the second bag ($45 if prepaid).
  • WestJet has applied a $5 increase across the board, resulting in fees of $35–$55 for the first bag and $55–$75 for the second bag, varying by payment timing.
